About Us
Starting with our enthusiasm for growing our own food organically, Dan Metzger & Joan Rawce Metzger have been growing garlic on our 5 acres in Willow Valley - the Tip of the Driftless - for 30+ years.
Collecting different varieties of hard-neck and soft-neck garlic has burgeoned into 19 varieties of tried and true cultivars.
Dan is an artisan of the soil and the pied piper of all the creatures that live within our confines, praying mantises, rabbits, woodchucks, spiders, and the occasional deer.
Luckily for us, garlic does not interest them as food! In his walking meditations he likes to keep his hands intertwined with his bosom plants and creates beautiful sculptures and braids.
Joan concentrates on the bounty that comes to the kitchen for her artistry, although walks in the wilds soothe her soul too! Cooking is her passion, and creating culinary delights with the garlic bounty is how it all started.
Although scape pesto is her contribution to the enterprise, exploring the realm of garlic cultivars has been her obsession as who doesn’t like to cook with garlic?!
